Bedford Pumps have won a £3M-plus  Environment Agency contract to provide replacement storm pumps at Altmouth Pumping Station.

The four replacement storm pumps are required for an existing land drainage pumping station structure. The pumps are electrically driven and each have a duty flow rate of 11.25 m3/s at a total design head of 4 m. The pumps had to meet the following requirements:

  • able to be retrofitted into the existing civil structure
able to be installed and removed readily, utilising existing station overhead crane.

Two replacement dry weather flow pumps were also required under the same contract – specified as electrically driven canister-type pumps able to achieve a delivery of 1.135 m3/s at a design head of approximately 6 m each.

The contract included the decommissioning and removal of the existing pumps and diesel engines prior to the works taking place. Bedford Pumps is also required to provide maintenance for a minimum period of 5 years following the completion of the 12 month defects period.
