The Environment Agency holding an open meeting on 15 September for local residents to discuss plans for the new flood risk management scheme for Nottingham as it runs through Attenborough.
When completed the Nottingham Trent Left Bank Flood Alleviation Scheme will help to protect about 16,000 properties in the Nottingham area. The Agency is keen to hear residents’ views on the proposed works through Attenborough, especially on its plans to reinstate The Strand. The Agency have said that where possible, suggestions will be included in its scheme before the planning application is re-submitted and considered further during the design process.
The Environment Agency withdrew the original planning application for the scheme at Attenborough in November 2007 because new information came to light about predicted flood levels. This required a change in the height of the proposed flood defences. The revised levels have now been confirmed and the Agency will re-submit its planning application in October 2008.
Concerns were raised by residents about the original design of the flood wall and the Agency has now amended its designs.
