Viridor, Scotland’s leading recycling, resources and renewable energy company and South West Water’s sister company, has announced the appointment of Paul Brown as its new Scottish Regional Managing Director effective from 1st February.
Moving from a senior role at Scottish Power Energy Networks, Mr Brown will head the Scottish recycling and resources division of a company investing £500m in Scotland.
The news is a major appointment for the company, which works with 96% of Scotland’s local authorities and has recently been appointed as ‘preferred bidder’ on the £700m Clyde Valley Residual Waste Partnership. The post of Scottish Regional Managing Director will play a key role in the development of the Scottish business, transforming Scottish Government zero waste policy into practice.
Part of the FTSE 250 Pennon Group which also owns South West Water, Viridor works in partnership with over 150 local authorities including 96% of Scottish councils.
The company is investing £1.8bn in low carbon infrastructure and has the UK’s largest network of 327 advanced recycling, energy recovery and landfill diversion facilities.
In addition to its £100m Scottish network of recycling-led technologies, the company has announced £357m of Scottish investment in the last twenty-four months including the £177.4m Energy Recovery Facility (ERF), at Oxwellmains, East Lothian and the £154m Glasgow Recycling & Renewable Energy Centre (GRREC)
With seven energy recovery facilities and four more under construction across the UK city-regions, Viridor currently produces enough energy to power over 330,000 homes.
