KMI Water preferred bidder for £114 million United Utilities contract

KMI Water has been named as the preferred bidder for a £114 million United Utilities contract. The joint venture between Kier, J Murphy and Interserve Project Services has been selected for a major United Utilities storm water improvements contract in Preston.
The scheme involves the construction of a 3.5km long, 2.85m internal diameter tunnel which will hold up to 40m litres of storm water to prevent overflows discharging to the River Ribble.
The project, which is planned for completion in Spring 2012, includes the construction of a new terminal pumping station at Penwortham to lift flows from the tunnel and transport them to the Clifton Marsh waste water treatment works via twin rising mains.
