A long-standing member of Severn Trent Water’s staff has been honoured with a national award in recognition of his significant contribution to the utility industry during 2009.
Fraser Pithie, who celebrated his 30th year of company service this year, is Senior Operations Manager for Severn Trent, and received his unexpected award from the National Joint Utilities Group at a ceremony held at the House of Commons earlier this week.
“I was overwhelmed to receive the award, which is in truth, is in recognition of the efforts made by not just me, but by so many of my colleagues across the company to improve all aspects of customer service.
“We also work very hard with our contractors and 42 highways authorities, as well as other agencies, to try and improve the way we work with our customers, and to respond to their needs and concerns.”
Fraser added:
“This year, we’ve been focusing in particular on ways in which we can improve how we work in the roads and footpaths, and have learned from some projects where we’ve fallen short of our customers’ expectations, for example, in Welford-on-Avon in Warwickshire, Ombersley in Worcestershire and Wilford Bridge in Nottingham.
“In all these cases, we have listened to what our customers have told us and have responded by changing the way we do things. We aim to take the learning from these examples and apply it to other projects, and have already seen the success of this approach.”
The special award was presented jointly to Fraser by Paul Richmond, Corporate Director, Virgin Media, and Louise Ellman MP, chair of the House of Commons Transport Select Committee.
Severn Trent was also shortlisted in the NJUG Partnership Award – aimed at recognising projects where utilities work together and in partnership with local authorities to minimise disruption.
