A project to alleviate sewage flooding in an area of Portland has been completed almost two months ahead of schedule.
Wessex Water has installed a new sewer system to supplement the existing sewerage network, which reaches capacity during periods of prolonged heavy rainfall.
The work involved laying 700m of sewer and building a new sewage pumping station to protect several properties in Easton Square from the effects of flooding from the foul sewer.
Bruce McAuslane, the project engineer for the scheme, said:
“This £2m scheme will help alleviate flooding to previously affected properties by adding capacity to the existing system and better managing the flows in the sewers during extreme weather conditions.”
Construction work began last February and was due to take 12 months.
