Thames Water boosts London's water supply

Three unused underground water springs in east London are providing a valuable new source of water for the capital. Thames Water has built three pumping stations to abstract up to 12.5 million litres a day - enough for 90,000 people - from the groundwater reserves in the event of a prolonged dry spell.

United Utilities fined £12,000 for river pollution

United Utilities Water PLC was fined £12,000 at Wigan Magistrates Court last week for allowing untreated sewage to enter the River Douglas, Wigan.  The company was also ordered to pay the Environment Agency’s costs of  £1,944.36.
