South West Water is starting a £790,000 project this week to tackle sewer flooding in Hannafore, Looe. The scheme involves installing a new drain to divert rainwater from roads out of the sewers and increasing the size of the outfall pipe from the sewage pumping station at Hannafore Point.
Graham Murphy, Director of Engineering for South West Water, said:
"We know there have been ongoing problems with flooding from the outfall pipe on Hannafore Beach and are confident that this project will dramatically improve the situation. This project is part of a much wider drive to address sewer flooding problems across the region.
The work will be carried out by South West Water's contractors Edmund Nuttall and the site will be registered with the Considerate Contractors Scheme. The programme started on 7th October and will last for 22 weeks. The team will be working seven days a week around the tides to complete the work as quickly as possible.
