Ofwat today welcomed the appointment of two new members to the Board of the Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat).
Environment Minister Ian Pearson announced that Michael Brooker and Gillian Owen would join the Ofwat Board as non-executive directors.
Philip Fletcher, chairman of the Ofwat Board, said:
"The appointments of Mike Brooker and Gill Owen will add to the expertise of the current Ofwat Board in continuing to protect consumers' interests, regulate the water industry in a fair and balanced way, promote competition wherever appropriate and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development."
Biographical details
Michael Brooker is a scientist who retired in 2005 as Chief Executive of Welsh Water following a 25-year career in the water industry in Wales. During that period he was Chief Scientist and subsequently Divisional Operations Director before becoming Managing Director in 1996. He is currently a non-executive member of the Water Industry Commission for Scotland, and a non-executive member of the Executive Board of the Natural Environmental Research Council. Gillian Owen is an independent consultant, a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Management Under Regulation at the Warwick Business School and the Policy and Regulation Adviser to the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP). Gillian was previously a member of the Competition Commission, a non-executive director at Ofgem and a member of the Bedfordshire Police Authority.
