United Utilities unveil sewer flood relief schemes

United Utilities are holding a number of public meetings this month about upcoming sewer flood alleviation schemes.

United Utilities are holding a number of public meetings this month about upcoming sewer flood alleviation schemes.

The company is holding two public exhibitions in June to highlight a proposed sewer flooding relief scheme in Great Sankey, Warrington. Company representatives will be on-hand to answer any questions local residents and councillors may have about the scheme, which is designed to alleviate the risk of sewer flooding to 18 homes on Pyecroft Road in Great Sankey.

Steve Knowles, United Utilities' Senior Project Manager, said:

"The public exhibitions will give local people the opportunity to look at our plans and discuss the scheme in detail.

"We will be showing a DVD which explains how the scheme would work and what we're doing to address the sewer flooding issue, which is an unpleasant experience for those it affects.

"We are looking forward to seeing people at our exhibitions and answering any questions they may have."

Engineers are proposing to construct an underground storm water detention tank within the south west corner of the Stocks Lane playing field. Plans are also in place to increase the size of the sewers in Pyecroft Road, Kintore Drive, Victoria Avenue and along the west side of the playing field.

Runcorn residents invited to see sewer scheme plans

In Runcorn tomorrow company representatives will be on-hand to answer any questions local residents and councillors have regarding plans to install an underground storage tank and new larger pipes in the wooded area adjacent to Cunliffe Close.

Tony Clinton, United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator, said:

"The public meeting is a great opportunity not only for local residents to ask us questions about our proposed work but also for us to explain why we need to carry out this project and the benefits it will bring to the local community.

"The tank will help to prevent properties in Cunliffe Close being flooded during heavy storms by holding excess water and pumping it away when the heavy rainfall subsides.

"Our new pipes will improve the overall reliability of the local sewer network."

Work is due to start on-site on Monday, June 22 and is expected to take up to seven months to complete.

United Utilities will also soon be carrying out an engineering project to improve the reliability of Knutsford's sewer network with the replacement of old sewer pipes and installation of some new ones at an existing pumping station. The project is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.

United Utilities' Project Co-ordinator Jason Boyd said: "We are delighted to be in a position to deliver these improvements, which will reinforce Knutsford's sewer network”.
