Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is investing £400,000 in a 16 week scheme to improve the sewerage network and deliver environmental benefits in Brynmawr, near Merthyr Tydfil.
This scheme will remove rainwater from the sewer network, reducing the risk of it overloading and causing flooding during very wet weather.
The work, which will begin on 8 January, will involve laying 260 metres of new pipes in the vicinity of Catholic Road.
Local residents can see the plans on show on Monday 17 December at St Mary's R.C. Primary School where members of the project team will be present to answer questions.
Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s Capital Delivery Manager, Martin Kilroy said:
“We realise the distress wastewater flooding can cause and are committed to tackling it. This investment will divert rainwater from our system and reduce the likelihood of it becoming overloaded.”
With the UK government demanding a 50% reduction in storm overflow spills by 2029, the era of reactive management is over.
