Tideway Tunnel alliance: Amey wins Systems Integrator contract

Thames Tideway Tunnel has announced its System Integration contract for the 25km ‘super sewer’ will go to the infrastructure support service provider, Amey.

amey tt contract win1The company will be responsible for providing process control and communication equipment and software systems for operation, maintenance and reporting across the Thames Tideway Tunnel system once commissioned.

Working alongside the alliance’s three main works construction contractors, Amey will integrate a range of software process control systems and communications equipment. This will ensure that the technology deployed by the teams on site throughout construction is joined up, managed and monitored to provide an effective operation.

The specialist team will achieve this by connecting the new and existing instrumentation and control assets such as flow meters and level controllers to a number of control centres, including integration with Thames Water’s existing SCADA system.

Last year, the Thames Tideway Tunnel team committed to forming an alliance model to ensure collaboration between Thames Tideway Tunnel, Thames Water and contractors, rewarding timely delivery and cost savings. Along with the three main works contractors, Amey will become part of this alliance when contracts are awarded.

Mel Ewell, Chief Executive of Amey, said:

“Thames Tideway Tunnel will be one of the most complex water infrastructure projects in the UK over the next few years. Our consulting experience built up across utilities, highways, and rail is now being applied to the water industry to design and manage the systems that will turn the tunnel project into a fully functional sewage operation.

“We are delighted to be joining the alliance and are looking forward to playing a critical role in this project that will protect the River Thames from further pollution and provide a long term, sustainable environment for the river.”

Mark Sneesby, COO of Thames Tideway Tunnel, said:

“It was essential for us to award the system integration contract early in the project to ensure effective collaboration during construction. For such a hugely vital project with 24 construction sites and three main works contractors, Amey has a key part to play in the smooth delivery of the project.

“We were thoroughly impressed with their bid and look forward to working with them as part of the Thames Tideway Tunnel alliance.”

The System Integrator activities on the project are due to start in 2016 and will involve up to 70 worksites across London.
