Veolia Water Technologies has been awarded a contract to supply MBBR (moving bed biofilm reactor) technology for tertiary ammonia removal at Severn Trent’s Lichfield Wastewater Treatment Works.
The site has been prioritised for investment in AMP6 as a result of ammonia effluent limit tightening due to the Water Framework Directive.
The Veolia MBBR is part of a works upgrade being carried out by Severn Trent’s partner NMC Nomenca, and has been designed to achieve very low residual ammonia.
The plant at Lichfield WwTW is the third to be delivered by Veolia for Severn Trent and NMC Nomenca, following the success of the Boughton WwTW and Hodsock WwTW projects in 2016.
With over 700 reference sites, Veolia and its dedicated MBBR division AnoxKaldnes, is currently the world leader in MBBR technology.
Since the 1980s, Veolia’s MBBR processes have been applied globally to a wide variety of applications, from large industrial and municipal installations down to small package plants on board ships.
