Northumbrian Water tenders £5.2m water treatment plant construction contract

Northumbrian Water has gone out to tender with a contract for construction works at the Hanningfield Water Treatment Works in Essex worth an estimated £5.2 million.

The contract covers construction of a washwater tanks extension at the Hanningfield WTW which is located within Essex and Suffolk Water's Operating Region.

Northumbrian Water is looking to appoint a contractor to carry out the construction of 2 nº wash water tank and pumping station alongside the existing wash water tanks and pumping station.

Construction is scheduled to start in July 2018 with the aim of having the asset/works in use before January 2020 as this is a date agreed with the Environment Agency.

The existing tanks will remain in service and be incorporated in to the new works - the existing pumping station and tanks will be refurbished only once the new works is fully commissioned and in service.

The scope of works includes:

  • Reduced level excavation for the wash water tanks and pumping station basement including the installation and removal of temporary works.
  • Construction of two new concrete wash water tanks.
  • Construction of new pumping station comprising of pump basement, interconnecting pipe work to the tanks and an above ground building to house the new MCC and beam crane.
  • Pipe laying and manhole construction.
  • Supply, installation and commissioning of all M&E equipment inc. pumps, pipework, valves, control systems, MCC, sub-station and new HV electricity supply.
  • Construction of a new overflow structure at the emergency lagoon.
  • The need to keep the current system running during the construction of the new works.
  • ICA control — A fully automated PLC controlled process, with HMIs communicating back to the Central SCADA network.

Time limit for receipt of requests for documents or for accessing documents is  14th February 2018 and 21st February 2018 for receipt of tenders or requests to participate.
