Thames Water seeks supply chain input on no dig leak repair innovation project opportunity

Thames Water is seeking supply chain input on a no dig leak repair innovation project opportunity ahead of potentially issuing a formal contract notice in March next year.

The water company has issued a Periodic Indicative Notice inviting interested suppliers to compete an online survey which is open to any organisation that wants to respond.

Thames Water, in partnership with the other UK water companies and Ofwat, are looking to develop an innovative 'no dig pipe leak repair technology' to fix leaking pipes without the need to dig a hole.

The utility is looking to engage with interested potential delivery partners to develop their initial idea through to designing and building a conceptual model and prototype for potential wider adoption of the technology in the UK water sector.

According to Thames Water, solving this problem will present the successful organisation with an opportunity to monetise a solution to a problem costing the UK and international water companies millions of pounds each year, as well the cost and disruption of road works.

The solution can be tested with the active participation, cooperation and expertise of Thames Water on existing assets and funding will also be provided to develop and tailor the solution to the water industry.

Thames Water said it will endeavour - but does not undertake - to review all of the responses received, either fully or at all.

However, where Thames considers that it is necessary to seek to clarify any aspect of a response, it may contact the organisation which has submitted the response.

The survey is a standalone exercise intended to gather information and it does not form part of any formal procurement process. However, Thames Water may use any responses to the survey to inform any potential future procurement processes.

Suppliers who are interested in taking part in the survey will be provided with a login to an online portal to access an information pack and market engagement feedback form – deadline to submit completed responses is 16 January 2023.
