Thames Water has awarded an AMP7 contract to maintain its slow sand filter beds and rapid gravity filters with an estimated value of £35.6 million.

The water company tendered the contract to appoint a number of partners to the framework agreement, which was tendered in the following 6 separate Lots:
- Lot 1 - Media removal and installation
- Lot 2- Slow sand filter bed refurbishments
- Lot 3- Supply of floor blocks for the slow sand filter beds
- Lot 4- Media supply for slow sand filter beds
- Lot 5- Rapid gravity filter refurbishments
- Lot 6- Media supply for rapid gravity filters
The following companies have been awarded contracts under the framework, which will run for an nitial contract term of 3 years with further extension options available.
- Cappagh Public Works Ltd (Lot 1)
- Ross-Shire Engineering Ltd (Lots 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6)
- Western Carbons Ltd (Lots 5 and 6)
- Techfil (Europe) Ltd (Lot 4)
- Stonbury Ltd (Lots 2 and 5)
- HC Wraxall & Co Ltd (Lot 3)
Thames Water has approximately 180 rapid gravity filters, together with approximately 114 slow sand filter beds across 5 sites which are typically inspected every 10 years. The slow filter beds are crucial to the water treatment process.
Estimated total value when the framework agreement was tendered was put at £35,604,492.
