Anglian Water tenders £8.6 million AMP8 waste management contract for grit, screening and iron sludge

Anglian Water has gone out to tender with an AMP8 waste management services contract for grit, screening and iron sludge worth an estimated £8.6 million.

ANGLIAN WATER LOVE EVERY DROP BANNER

The water company has decided to split the existing waste stream of Grit, Screenings and Iron Sludge into three separate Lots:

Lot 1. Grit

The Waste Management partner is required to provide skips or containers to collect the Grit as it is output from the waste recycling process. Following this, the Waste Management partner provides haulage services to transport the waste to AWS grit hubs for recycling by AWS.

Lot 2. Screenings

The Waste Management partner is required to provide skips or containers to collect the screenings as it is output from the waste recycling process. Following this, the Waste Management partner provides collection and haulage services to transport the waste off site to a disposal site. Currently, this is landfill sites, however this does not align with Anglian Water's sustainability goals or Circular Economy Strategy therefore a disposal option higher on the waste hierarchy would be preferable.

Lot 3. Iron Sludge

The Waste Management partner is required to provide skips or containers to collect the iron sludge as it is output from the water treatment works process. Following this, the Waste Management partner provides collection and haulage services to transport the waste off site to a disposal site.

The three Lots are key areas where a significant tonnage is output from Anglian Water’s operational sites each year.

By splitting the Lots, Anglian Water is seeking to identify innovative alternatives to disposal via landfill which are available within the market.

Initial contract term for all lots is 5 years - with the option to extend for up to a further 3 years for Lots 1 and 2.

Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 9 July 2024 – click here to access the tender documentation.
