Yorkshire Water and Kelda are seeking supply chain input from turbine manufacturers and wind data analysts, modellers and providers for their planned deployment of new on-shore wind turbines.

Yorkshire Water and Kelda are seeking to engage the market to discuss their planned deployment of new on-shore wind turbines. Work done to date indicates deployments of 1-3 turbines at each location, with 7 sites under consideration initially plus 2 re-powering sites. As the companies look to expand this programme, they anticipate a small scale wind development programme in addition.
The deployments would be on ther water company’s operational land and would directly power the adjacent operational site, offsetting grid purchased power.
Early turbine identification, based on site constraints and available wind yields, suggests Kelda are looking to initially procure in the 500 kW - 3.45 MW range. This will result in a variance of turbine sizes from hub heights between 40 - 80 meters, and tip heights up to the region of, but not limited to, 117 metres. Later phases of wind development will be in the sub 250 kW range.
Yorkshire Water and Kelda are seeking to open discussions with turbine manufacturers / suppliers to understand;
- Equipment / turbines availability;
- Indicative lead times for supply;
- Indicative pricing, both capex and opex;
- Indicative commercial terms; and
- After sales maintenance provision.

- Installation
These considerations are likely to change as development progresses.
Yorkshire Water and Kelda anticipate awarding the procurement in 3 bandings – a procurement partner may look to cover all of the bandings or just one. The water company and Kelda are open to both new and refurbished turbines via direct purchases from OEMs, broker facilitated procurement and framework agreements.
Current estimated start and end contract dates are 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2030, wiith a further possible extension to 31 December 2032

Yorkshire Water and Kelda are also separately seeking to engage the market specifically regarding bankable wind data without the requirement for 12 month Met Mast or LiDAR campaigns. Work done to date indicates deployments of 1-3 turbines at each of the 7 sites under consideration initially plus 2 repowering sites.
The companies would like to open discussions with wind data analysts, modellers and providers and would like to work with wind data specialists with a proven track record of securing wind turbine project finance having used modelled wind data, processed into a bankable format, without a 12 month LiDAR or Met Mast campaign. Data must include:
- Annual Average(mean) wind speed (at hub height)
- Once in 50 years 3 seconds maximum wind gust
- Weibull Shape factor k
- Wind shear index IEC alpha
- Characteristic turbulence at 15m/s, or the full turbulence graph
- Wind farm output at P50/P90 levels (gross and net yield)
Yorkshire Water and Kelda can provide the following information:

- Wind turbines hub heights
- Wind turbine makes and models
- Any other relevant data
The companies are looking to partner with a single data provider who can provide bankable wind data which will be used for accurate financial modelling and securing project finance.
