A-Plant, one of the UK’s largest plant, tool and equipment hire companies, has won a three year £20 million contract to be the sole supplier of both operated and non-operated plant to the Environment Agency.

Under the Agency's National Plant Hire Framework Agreement, A-Plant  will provide construction plant, excavators, pumps, telehandlers, rollers, site accommodation and generators of various sizes. The equipment will be required on short, medium and long term hire (up to a year) with certain pieces of kit needing to be available on a 24/7 hire basis.

The Agency received a total of five bids for the contract, which also includes a one year further extension option.

While the Environment Agency already has its own plant holding, it also requires hired in kit to supplement this in order to undertake its front line services across England (and Wales). During the term of the framework agreement the Agency said it might also consider the possibility of selling some of its owned underutilised fleet to the successful contractor with a view to either leasing or hiring the equipment back.

A-Plant is part of FTSE-250 company Ashtead Group plc, the second largest equipment rental company in the world.
