Ofwat grants third inset appointment to water supplier

Ofwat has granted Independent Water Networks Limited (IWNL) its third inset appointment which will enable the company to supply water to a new development of 162 homes at Great Billing Way in Northampton.

Inset appointments allow one company to replace another as the statutory supplier for a specific geographic area. IWNL will serve its customers by buying treated water from Anglian Water. Sewerage services to the site will continue to be supplied by Anglian Water.

Customers on the site will benefit from this supply arrangement through discounted water tariffs, as IWNL will charge five per cent less per cubic metre of water supplied than Anglian Water would otherwise charge.

IWNL will look to continue offering the discounted water tariffs to all customers on the site as long as it is able to do so. IWNL will be subject to the same customer service requirements as other water and sewerage companies.

In October 2007, Ofwat granted IWNL its first inset appointment for a housing development in Corby. In January 2008, Ofwat granted IWNL its second inset appointment for a large development of homes and businesses at Priors Hall, also in Corby.
