Government consults on revocation of Regional Spatial Strategies

The Government has launched a series of separate consutations on the environmental assessments conducted on the proposed revocation of Regional Spatial Strategies.

The government said the decision to conduct the environment asessments had been part of its stated commitment to protecting the environment. However, while it is the Government's clear policy intention to revoke existing regional strategies outside London, this is subject to the outcome of environmental assessments.

The revocations will not be undertaken until the Secretary of State and Parliament have had the opportunity to consider the findings of the assessments.

Responses to the consultations, which are under the aegis of the Department for Communities and Local Government, must be submitted by 20th January 2012.
