The Morgan Sindall Grontmij Joint Venture (MGJV) and Yorkshire Water are amongst the winners at the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber 2014 Awards, after receiving two prestigious awards for Innovation and Project of the Year.
The Scarborough Revised Bathing Water Directive scheme, a £50M project to improve Scarborough’s bathing waters and ensure they meet the EU’s revised Bathing Water Directive, was presented with the Project of the Year Award. The major scheme, which is being delivered on behalf of Yorkshire Water, has seen the MGJV manage a range of technically challenging civil, mechanical and electrical works across five principal site locations in Scarborough and the surrounding area.
In addition to the successful delivery of technical works, the MGJV has also developed excellent community links, acting as the primary interface for the residents, visitors, community groups and local businesses who have been impacted by the improvement works.
The MGJV also achieved the Innovation Award for their work in implementing Yorkshire Water’s pioneering Remote Energy Visibility and Optimisation (REVO) scheme. The innovative controls enable Yorkshire Water’s operatives to profile when they use high energy consuming assets around the cheapest electricity tariffs. The controls can also be used to identify the most efficient assets to run, saving both money and energy.
REVO has been installed on a range of clean water and waste water sites to utilise the most cost-effective tariffs throughout the day. The scheme will have successfully delivered savings for Yorkshire Water across 60 sites.
The MGJV also received runner up status within the Integration & Collaborative Working category for the design and delivery of the thermal hydrolysis plant at Yorkshire Water’s wastewater treatment works in Esholt.
The winning projects will now be entered into the Constructing Excellence National Awards Final which will take place on Friday 14th November.
