The Environment Agency has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a new full abstraction licence at a site in Selby as part of a water rights trade.

The application is for a new full abstraction licence to replace an expiring abstraction licence which authorises the abstraction of water from the Sherwood Sandstone.

The Agency is seeking an increase to the existing authorised annual abstraction from 120,450 cubic metres per year to 164,450 cubic metres per year to maintain the water level in Carlton Lake, Carlton, Nr Selby, North Yorkshire. The proposal is part of a water rights trade with an existing licence holder who has reduced their licensed volume by the equivalent volume.
