Public unaware of water supply risks – 2014 report findings reiterated in run-up to Election

In the run-up to the General Election, Talis UK is reiterating its warnings from its 2014 research study which revealed that most people are unaware of the major risks to the nation’s water supplies - MD Mark Hodgens said that in election year especially, it is troubling that water management is so low on the public’s agenda.

Talis Report image 2The survey of 1,000 UK households was carried out by Talis UK - a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of a comprehensive variety of valves, meterboxes and water fittings for all types of pipe – as part of its 20:20 Water Management initiative.

According to Talis, while the impact of factors such as drought and insufficient rainfall in southern England and the amount of water lost through pipe leakages is thought to be reducing,  it is in fact widely accepted that the issues are the most important challenges that the country must tackle.

Mark Hodgens, managing director of Talis UK, said:

"The UK faces some difficult challenges in relation to managing water supplies and yet general awareness of these issues is low outside the water industry.”

“With our 20:20 Challenge we want to raise awareness of the national importance of water management with people able to have a real impact, such as builders, plumbers and major employers.

“In election year especially, it is troubling that water management is so low on the public’s agenda. More needs to be done to raise awareness and understanding so that there is greater public support and political will to protect the security of clean water supplies for generations to come.”
