ICE launches Infrastructure Transformation ideas hub

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) has launched a new thought leadership hub to help professionals better understand and collaborate on some of the big trends that are transforming how we design, build and operate infrastructure.

The free-to-access Infrastructure Transformation hub draws on the latest thinking and new ways of working from across the construction and technology sectors - features include expert blogs, project case studies, events, videos and other online content.

The hub is focussed on four issues which could transform the infrastructure industry in the next decade:

  • autonomous vehicles
  • artificial intelligence
  • “agile” infrastructure that can flex rapidly to meet changing demands
  •  the changing skills demands these developments will create.

Nathan Baker, ICE Director of Engineering Knowledge, commented:

“The infrastructure world is on the cusp of a major transformation. The growth in computing power, digitisation and use of real-time data is revolutionising the way society accesses and uses infrastructure. Both traditional civil engineering firms and new entrants from the information technology sector are finding new innovative ways to meet the growing demand for smarter infrastructure.”

“More than ever, we need to champion the role of creating high quality infrastructure services and systems management over simply delivering more major projects. With support from Topcon and Autodesk, the Infrastructure Transformation hub will help the construction industry understand what society needs from its infrastructure in the decades to come.”
