The six member water companies of regional water group Water Resources South East have each published their updated drought plans for consultation.
All water companies in England and Wales are required by the Government to produce a drought plan - setting out the actions they would expect to take in the event of a drought to maintain essential supplies of water, while also protecting the environment.
Developing a Regional Resilience Plan for all users of water is central to WRSE activities. The plan will be used as a blueprint for water supply investment by each water company in the region.
In March last year the Environment Agency published the national framework for water resources which sets out the strategic direction for long term regional water resources planning in England.
Since then the five regional water resources groups will be working to assess their needs in more detail. The groups, which are made up of the 17 English water companies and other water users, will also produce a set of co-ordinated, cross-sector plans.
