ACWA Services’ global growth and expansion has been given a boost with news of the success of its US-based joint venture company ACWA Clear Inc.
ACWA Clear, a joint venture with US-based water and wastewater solutions provider Clear Creek Systems, has announced important projects for both the municipal and industrial sectors, including a large arsenic removal system, just two years after the venture was first established. The company provides an extensive range of services and in-depth expertise from its headquarters in Bakersfield, California.
The company’s initial focus is on the southwestern states; California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico, where its global know-how and comprehensive, cost-effective technologies can help ameliorate severe water scarcity issues.
ACWA’s international success story began some years ago when ACWA Emirates was established to serve the expanding Middle East market. This subsidiary is now a flourishing venture with a fast-growing client list and impressive number of prestigious projects to its name, including seawater desalination systems for the Palm Jumeirah complex in Dubai and the massive 76,000m3/day Al-Ansab plant, thought to be the largest operating membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment plant in the world and which is one of over 30 ACWA MBRs in the Middle East.
Other award winning contracts include the MBR systems for the King Abdullah University for Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia and a fast-track irrigation water project for Riyadh’s prestigious Princess Noura University for Women in Saudi Arabia.
In other sectors, ACWA Air, which offers a wide range of individually-tailored air pollution control systems, is also experiencing rapid growth with several recent major contract wins for its wet and dry scrubbing systems in the UK and the Far East.

ACWA Services Executive Director and President of ACWA Clear, Peter Brewer says:
“ACWA Services’ growth and expansion plans have always looked outward from our extremely strong base in the UK to other regions where we believe there is a market for our expertise. Our long experience as a provider of sustainable process engineering solutions has helped to consolidate our reputation globally, and in turn our global experience adds an extra dimension to our work in our home market.”
And in the UK municipal market ACWA’s advanced technologies are fast becoming the industry standard. Its innovative Nitreat® nitrate treatment system is widely acclaimed, whilst the Amtreat® ammonia removal technology is now established as the industry’s ammonia removal process of choice. Likewise, ACWA’s advanced Memtreat® MBR treatment process which delivers high quality treated effluent with a small footprint is in high demand.
Business in the UK industrial wastewater treatment sector is also showing strong growth. The Company have recently won a major contract to provide a biofilter effluent treatment system to cereal giant Kellogg’s and have supplied Coca-Cola Enterprises with a de-alkaliser to help increased demand during the Olympics.
Peter Brewer says:
“With our new success in the US we are going from strength to strength, and have established ourselves as a truly global player. The US market is an extremely significant one and ACWA Clear is well placed to help resolve both current and future environmental challenges.”
