ACWA Emirates LLC is to supply a range of state-of-the-art water and wastewater treatment solutions for the massive new Shah gas field, which is being developed by the Abu Dhabi Gas Development Company, Al Hosn Gas.
Working for the main contractor, global operator Consolidated Contractors Company, ACWA Emirates will provide one of its latest MEMTREAT® MBR systems, ensuring a high level of treatment for the domestic wastewater generated by the significant on-site population.
The MBR plant will have two streams with a peak factor of three times the average flow rate. Treated effluent will be of sufficiently high quality that it can be used for unrestricted irrigation.
For the site’s process needs, an RO plant is being provided to desalinate 40m3/hour of utility water, with a custom made arrangement to cater for variable flows, reliable redundancy, and highest recovery rates.
Most of the product water will be used by the granulation process. The remaining will be treated using a water softener to reduce the hardness, in order to make it suitable for use as a boiler make-up feedwater.
ACWA will also provide a series of chemical conditioning and physical settlement separation clarifiers to treat the wastewater generated by washing down equipment and handling sulphur at the Shah sulphur station. The process will recover sulphur fines, then treated and recycled water will be used for washing down process areas. The plant is anticipated to handle daily flow of more than 2000 m3/day.
ACWA Emirates Director and General Manager, Gary Jackson said:
“Our ongoing success in providing best-in-class water and wastewater treatment solutions in the Middle East is underlined by this significant project which illustrates both the wide range of on-site solutions we can provide and our ability to meet the very highest standards demanded by the gas, oil and petrochemical market”.
