A water treatment plant in Northumberland is set to benefit from a multi-million pound upgrade.

Northumbrian Water’s Warkworth Water Treatment Works (WTW) will undergo a £2.2 million refurbishment to help maintain and enhance top quality drinking water for the future.

The work will involve renewing water pumps, filters and computer control stations.

Warkworth WTW treats up to 42 million litres of water per day and supplies 92,000 customers in Northumberland, including Alnwick, Morpeth, Ashington and surrounding areas.

The work, which will begin next Monday, is expected to take up to 9 months to complete.

Michael Walsh, Northumbrian Water’s project manager, said the treatment works would remain fully operational while the site is being upgraded with no impact on the water service to customers as a result.

Construction company Amey is working on the project .
