South East Water reaches milestone in water efficiency scheme

South East Water has reached a milestone in its new water efficiency scheme – the water company has handed out more than 25,000 water-saving devices to its customers.

The devices have now been handed out as part of a new scheme encouraging water-wise householders to visit a dedicated website where they can request the water saving items.

Lee Dance, Head of Water Resources and Environmental at South East Water, said:

“On average, people living in the south east use around 160 litres of drinking water per day.

“Thanks to the 25,000 devices requested between July 2014 and October 2015 it is estimated 287,000 litres of water is being saved every day – that is about the same amount as 3,500 baths full of water.

“We are really keen to promote small changes that customers can make to do their bit and save water and these water efficiency devices are a great way to do this.”

Devices on offer include a four-minute shower timer, a toilet cistern bag which saves water with every flush and an eco-flow tap spray.

In addition, customers can order a shower regulator which lowers the flow rate to ensure the right amount of water is being delivered to showers and a tap aerator which gives taps water saving aerated spray.

For gardeners, water storing crystals, which take in large amounts of water and hold it to form a special reservoir which plant roots will grow into, are available as well as a waterstick which is a moisture probe that senses the right time to water house plants.
