Southern Water’s £3 million sewer pipeline replacement works in Ramsgate is nearing completion.

ramsgate-seafront-shaftIn the latest phase of the project being delivered by the utility’s construction partner MGjv, two shafts 25 metres and 4 metres deep respectively now house a pipeline connection.

At 25 metres, a hole was cut out of the side of the main shaft to allow a pipe to be fed from 4 metres below a roundabout in Military Road into the shaft, using a boring machine and a method called ‘pipe jacking’. The two sections of pipe are now connected.

Southern Water Project Manager Andy Arnold said the latest phase of the scheme, with the digging of the shafts, is now nearing completion. The final connection to the existing sewer main is due for completion in April.
