Alan Belfield appointed as Chairman of Arup Group

Dr Alan Belfield will take over as Chairman of Arup Group from 1 April 2019.

ALAN BELFIELD ARUPBelfield will lead Arup’s 15,000-strong team. He will oversee a global business with turnover in excess of £1.6 billion across advisory, planning, engineering, design and management services in the cities, energy, transport and water markets.

Currently serving as Chief Operating Officer for the firm, Belfield has a wealth of experience in technology, engineering and advisory services, and an unwavering commitment to realise Arup’s ambition to ‘shape a better world’. He previously led Arup’s operations across the United Kingdom, Middle East and Africa.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a member of the UK Government’s Professional and Business Services Council.

Commenting on his appointment, Alan Belfield said:

Belfield succeeds Gregory Hodkinson who completes his five-year term on 31 March 2019, the maximum tenure for Chairman of Arup. He will be joined by Deputy Chairman, Tristram Carfrae who has been reappointed in that role for a further three-year term.
