Yorkshire Water is building a new £6m service reservoir in Scotton, North Yorkshire to increase resilience of the drinking water network in the area, and to maintain pressure where demand is increasing.

Contract partner Mott Macdonald Bentley has begun building the service reservoir next to the utility’s existing reservoir on Hunton New Rd.

When complete, the reservoir will cover an area of 875m2 and will help to provide 2.5 million litres of clean drinking water to Catterick Garrison and the surrounding areas.

The reservoir is being built to support future developments in the local area and reduce the risk of interruption to supply.

Ben Goldsborough, project manager for operations, at Yorkshire Water said:

“By building the service reservoir, we’re ensuring that we’re prepared for an increase in demand and can provide a reliable service to all our customers both now and in the future.”

The project is expected to be completed in early 2026.

Earlier this year, Yorkshire Water completed the installation of 6.5km of mains in Catterick, as part of wider investment in the area to enhance the resilience of the network.

The projects are part of an £800 million investment by Yorkshire Water in its infrastructure across the region in the 24/25 financial year. The utility has also submitted plans to Ofwat outlining a more than £8 billion investment in the region from 2025 to 2030.
