Anglian Water completes £1.4 million project to reduce flooding in Holywell Row

Anglian Water has completed a £1.4 million project in Holywell Row helping to prevent flooding to local communities and the environment.

AW STORM TANK CONSTRUCTION

The work, which started in November last year, included the installation of a new underground tank to hold 390,000 litres of rainfall until the network frees up.

The new tank off Wildmere Lane in Holywell Row will help prevent flooding by temporarily holding the stormwater until it is safe to transfer to Mildenhall Water Recycling Centre (WRC) where it will be treated and returned to the environment.

The improvements mean that the area can be better prepared for the extreme weather now becoming more common due to climate change.

Suffolk is home to some of the most environmentally sensitive parts of the region, so protecting these areas during extreme weather events is more important than ever.

Sarah Lovitt, Customer Co-Ordinator for the project said:

“As a result of climate change, we’re seeing more bouts of extreme weather, so it was important that we prepared the area to store extra storm water before it’s treated and returned to the environment.
