Yorkshire Water is set to begin a £480,000 project to replace approximately 600m of water mains in Grassington, North Yorkshire, on Monday 8 September, to improve the resilience and reliability of the area’s network.

The work is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406 million investment to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across the region as part of its £8.3 billion investment in infrastructure over the next five years. In North Yorkshire, more than 90km of pipework will be replaced in the first year alone.

Nichola Fairbairn, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said:

“Replacing the mains in Grassington will improve reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage and prevent water main bursts, helping us to deliver a better service for our customers in the area.”

Contract partners United Living will begin work next Monday 8 September, with road closures expected to start later on in the project. on 22 September for around six weeks.

The project in Grassington is the latest mains replacement scheme to start in North Yorkshire with many already underway, including around the villages of Thirn, Bedale and Well, Hauxwell and Hunton, and Levisham.
