Yorkshire Water is getting ready to start work on two more mains replacement upgrades as part of its £8.3 billion AMP8 investment programme.

The water company is due to start work on 13July on a £5.8 million scheme to upgrade the clean water network in and around a number of Goole villages to provide a resilient and reliable supply for customers in the area.

The essential upgrade will see a total of 18km of clean water mains replaced across Swinefleet, Adlingfleet, Garthorpe, Reedness, Ousefleet, Whitgift and Fockerby, areas that have previously been prone to bursts. The investment will help reduce leaks, prevent bursts and provide a reliable and resilient clean water supply for local customers in the future.

Nichola Fairbairn, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said:

“This mains replacement work is part of our largest ever investment programme of £8.3 billion to strengthen infrastructure and improve services for our customers.

Yorkshire Water’s contract partners, United Infrastructure, are carrying out the work - the overall project is due to complete at the end of December 2027.

Next week the water company’s contract partners M Group will be starting work on Monday 6 July on a £270,000 project to replace more than 550m of clean water mains at Braithwell, Rotherham. The upgrade will see the ageing pipes replaced with new, more resilient mains.

Jason Farrar, project manager at Yorkshire Water, commented:

“We are making significant investment in Rotherham, and this is the latest of a number of mains replacement schemes to improve resilience in the clean network including Kiveton Park, South Anston and Rawmarsh.”

Yorkshire Water recently announced the first of 27 projects, totalling £73.5 million in the Rotherham area to add extra storage capacity to the sewer network and reduce the number and duration of wastewater discharges into watercourses following periods of prolonged or heavy rain.
