AECOM’s European water business expansion continues

AECOM is expanding its water business in Romania following a succession of multi-million-euro wins.

The main objective of the contracts is to assure compliance with European Union legislation and standards in the field of water supply, collection and water and wastewater treatment.

In June this year AECOM announced the appointment of Mark Studholme as Strategic Business Development Director (Europe) for its Water business. At the time AECOM said that the former Managing Director of Biwater Services Ltd would be responsible for driving its growth plans in the water sector throughout Europe and helping the company to realise its ambition to become the leading service and delivery provider in the UK and European water markets.

In Romania, AECOM is providing the following services across three counties - Sibiu, Brasov and Bistrita-Nasaud through two separate contracts awarded by S.C. AQUABIS S.A. and S. C. Apa – Canal S.A. Sibiu:-

  • Extensive project management, including planning and financial advice, sludge strategy, leakage control, wastewater management, operational maintenance and project implementation
  • Preparation of tender documentation in compliance with Romanian and EU legislation
  • Design and technical assistance during the execution of works
  • Technical assistance during the bidding stage
  • Development of a hydraulic modelling system
  • Masterplan updates
  • Development of a GIS asset database
  • Stakeholder management and publicity.

A third contract win has been awarded by S.C. Compania Aquaserv S.A to an AECOM-led joint venture formed with Safege SA Nanterre France and Tractebel Engineering SA. The scope of work mainly comprises supervision of 16 working contracts for drinking and wastewater systems in the counties of Mures and Harghita including works supervision activities and quality control both during and post construction.

Graham Howells, Managing Director of AECOM’s Europe water business, commented:

“The profile of AECOM’s Water business is increasing significantly within the Romanian water sector. Our global water expertise combined with the investment we have made to strengthen our local presence positions us as a serious contender to provide technical expertise and guidance on best practice for Romania’s water infrastructure.”
