Severn Trent Water is to invest almost £1 million pounds into work to install larger sewers and a new pumping station at Westwoodside near Scunthorpe to prevent future sewer flooding in the area.

The project will help the sewers handle more rainfall – the existing system is now struggling to cope during heavy rain.

Yorkshire Water will be working on their behalf to divert an existing water pipe at the same time – the two companies are working together to help minimise disruption to the local community. Yorkshire Water’s project manager, Brigitte Sorby said the firm’s contract partners Balfour Beatty will be moving a water pipe to make space for the new sewer.

Severn Trent Water contract partner NMCNomenca will be carrying out the work, which will begin this week and is due to be completed in January 2015.
