Southern Water has become the first water company in the UK to offer a new qualification to staff.

Nine employees, a mix of graduate trainees and managers, are now signed up to the Diploma in Water Operations and Management.

Over 18 months, they will take modules specific to their area - ranging from water treatment to management - but will also learn about other areas of business.  The diploma will be received on completion of all modules.

Pam James, Southern Water’s Head of People Development, said:

“This diploma is designed by the water industry for the water industry. It covers all topics necessary for us to have a workforce that fully understands our business – both from a technical and business perspective. It will also help us attract and retain the next generation of professionals into our industry.”

The programme is being run by training provider Watertrain. Claire Allard, Watertrain Project Manager, said:

“We are delighted to have Southern Water on board as the first organisation to enrol on the programme.”
