Future of water industry in Scotland

Maintaining stable charging and improving customer service will be the main priorities for the Scottish water industry as it looks to 2014 and beyond, Stewart Stevenson said yesterday.
In an interview with the BBC the ex-chairman of Scottish Chairman Alan Alexander has urged ministers to consider mutualising the publicly-owned utility.

European floods Directive finally adopted

On 18th September the Council finally adopted a Directive of the European parliament and of the Council on the assessment and management of flood risks. The adoption followed an agreement with the European Parliament in April and the Directive will enter into force upon its publication in the Official Journal.
The European Commission has adopted new legislation on industrial emissions to strengthen the provisions already in force and reduce industrial emissions throughout the European Union.

EU Commission takes legal action against UK

The European Commission is taking legal action against the United Kingdom for not fully complying with European Court of Justice judgments in two separate cases.
The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee will shortly be announcing the single evidence session which forms part of the short inquiry into Defra's consultation on implementation of the Nitrates Directive in England.
