Severn Trent Water and Dee Valley Water have gone out to tender with a £2.3 million contract to replace private wires following BT’s announcement that all low bandwidth Private Wire services will cease in March 2020.
Both water companies’ existing Private Wires are directly affected by the service withdrawal. The connections are primarily used for point to point communications between sites to allow direct control and automation, from booster stations to reservoirs for example. The sites do not require significant bandwidth but do require a reliable stable service.
The contract is being tendered in the followingLots:
Lot 1 – Semi-ruggedised end point broadband/mobile router devices with SIMs
Lot 2 - Digital radio end point devices for point to point communications
Scheduled start date is 29th June 2018 – the contract could run for up to five years to May 2023, including extension options up to three years in total. Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 2nd March 2018 – click here to access the tender documentation
