Thames Water has gone out to tender with a leak-testing services framework contract for trunk mains leak detection worth an estimated £25.6 million.
Thames Water intends to award 1 or more agreements for the provision of services of surveying of transfer and principal mains for the detection, quantification and monitoring of leaks. The framework is being tendered in the following two Lots
- Lot 1: Invasive Leak Detection Services;
 - Lot 2: Correlation Leak Detection and Monitoring Services.

The water company has over 3,900 km of trunk mains across its estate - currently 12 % of these have specific access points for the insertion of leak detection equipment. The scope of the framework will require successful contractors to provide fully trained and competent teams for the surveying and identification of leaks within trunk mains in the Thames Water Region. Any invasive leak detection technology must be able to fit within pre-installed access points no bigger than 80 mm in width and can operate within water flows of 0,2 m/s and higher.
Suppliers providing correlation leak detection and monitoring will be required to conduct thorough correlation surveys to highlight potential leaks on trunk mains with diameters 300 mm (12”) and above across the Thames Water region.
Planning and scheduling work will be carried out by Thames Water.
The service covers the whole of the Thames Water supply region - however the water company has reserved the right to award multiple contracts and split the award into sub-regions if deemed appropriate at tender stage.
Bidders can apply for 1 or more Lots on the framework, which will apply across all Thames Water regions.
The initial term of the Framework Agreement will be 3 years with an option to extend up to a maximum of 8 years.
Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 5th June 2019 - click here to access the tender documentation.
