South West Water yesterday lifted the boil water notice for a further 731 properties in the Summercombe and Chestnut Drive supply zone – but it still remains in place for another 678 properties on a different part of the network.

Two major wastewater treatment works in the Southampton area have welcomed a new state-of-the-art treatment process to improve water quality.

The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs has gone out to tender with a contract for a project to develop a validation standard for ultraviolet (UV) irradiation for disinfection and update existing guidance on the use of UV for water treatment.
