A study in a recent report by global consultancy firm Deloitte on the challenges facing the global water industry has suggested that $16 trillion should be dedicated to water infrastructure over the next two decades.

Business Minister Mark Prisk will today announce that the Green Construction Board (GCB) has secured £1 million to bolster its operations.

Two thirds of construction companies admit that they pay their own suppliers late while one in three have come close to going out of business due to late payments, a survey has revealed.

At least two high-profile consortia including two large pension funds are set to compete for the UK water assets of French firm Veolia Environnement.

Water industry regulator Ofwat is planning further consultations on its proposals to make radical changes to the way it sets prices following high-level concerns expressed by the water companies and both UK and overseas investors.

The UK Green Investments (UKGI) team, which will manage investment in the UK’s green infrastructure, is seeking interest from experienced fund managers to run Government-managed accounts of up to £100 million to invest in the non-domestic energy efficiency infrastructure sector.

UK water companies are calling for water industry watchdogs Ofwat and the Consumer Council for Water to adopt a pragmatic approach to proposals for the introduction of social tariffs for water bills.

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon George Osborne MP has called for more investment by Asian companies in UK infrastructure, citing Cheung Kong Group, owners of Northumbrian Water, as the example.

Credit ratings agency Moody's has affirmed Northumbrian Water's ratings at Baa1, and changed its outlook to stable from negative.
