Flooding and Flood Defence

The Environment Agency has reached an important milestone in a 15 year project to provide 7km of new sea defences inland from the coast to protect local communities together with the creation of a large nature reserve at Medmerry in West Sussex.

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, has been awarded of UK two coastal defence contracts totalling £73 million for Blackpool Council and Wyre Council.

 

The £36 million Clacton and Holland-on-Sea coastal protection scheme has been given the go ahead by the Environment Agency.

 

The House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee has published the official Government response to the Committee's Third Report of Session 2013-14 - Managing Flood Risk.

 

The Environment Agency has announced that a £14.5 million scheme to improve the tidal flood defences along the East Bank of the River Arun is set to start in Littlehampton this month.

 

Coastal Communities 2150 is asking people who live and work in Seaford, Lewes, Newhaven and the surrounding villages to submit their views on various conceptual scenarios on adapting to sea level rise and flood risk between now and 2150.

 

A £28 million Environment Agency scheme to construct 7km of new sea defences inland from the coast together with a wildlife haven at Medmerry in West Sussex is now nearing completion.

 

Yorkshire Water is making good progress on work to install a large underground pipe between Goole Carr Lane pumping station and the nearby River Ouse.
