Tywn_concrete_revetment_canThe Atkins-designed Tywyn Coastal Defence Scheme for Gwynedd Council will be formally opened today by Jane Davidson AM, Welsh Assembly Government minister for environment, sustainability and housing.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has launched a new state-of-the-art service which will provide the earliest possible warning for Scots living in communities threatened by river or coastal flooding.

Around 50,000 tonnes of silt are being removed from a Lincolnshire river to reduce the risk of flooding to homes in the area.

‘Blue corridor’ vision for Derby

The Environment Agency has published its ‘Blue Corridor’ vision for Derby and the Lower Derwent Flood Risk Management Strategy.

The Environment Agency today unveiled plans for tailored flood warning services to be developed to better prepare utility providers, emergency services, insurers, retail and transport companies for flooding.

Staffordshire County Council has commissioned coastal and rivers expert Royal Haskoning to help it prepare its Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (PFRA).

Major flood defence works in Wales completed

Environment Agency Wales has completed a programme of major improvement works to upgrade local flood defences. The Agency said that thousands of people in four North Wales villages would now be better protected from floods. 

Communities in the North East will benefit from a £2.4 million package of schemes to help to protect them against the risk of flooding.

Communities in the Midlands are set to benefit from a £3 million package of schemes in 2011/12 to protect them against the risk of flooding.
