NFU launches Flooding Manifesto

The government and its agencies must develop long-term strategic plans to mitigate future flood risk, the National Farmers Union said today with the launch of the NFU Flooding Manifesto.

Northern Ireland Water is currently completing the detailed design of a major flood alleviation project for the Greystown/Malone area of Belfast.

MPs have today criticised the Government for missing opportunities to act on its report on improving flood protection for communities at risk across England - describing its response as "disappointing" and "deficient" on the issues of insurance, resilience and sustainable drainage.

The Environment Agency is seeking views from residents in the towns of Bampton and Tiverton in Devon on proposed flood defences.

The Environment Agency has announced that the long-awaited Horncastle flood storage reservoir can now be used to reduce flood risk to hundreds of local homes and businesses.

Northumbrian Water is investing more than £1 million in reducing the flood risk in a County Durham town and is also exploring other future opportunities to reduce the flood risk in other parts of the town.

The Environment Agency will shortly start work on the construction phase of the £14 million Dawlish beach management scheme which gets underway this month.

Severe flood risk on East Coast passes

The severe flood risk caused by high tides and strong winds caused large waves along the East Coast of England has receded over the weekend.

The Environment Agency is warning communities along the east coast of England to be prepared for large waves and possible flooding throughout Friday into Saturday morning, including the possibility of a three metre storm surge.
