Flooding and Flood Defence

The Government has announced that an extra £140 million is being made available to help repair roads hit by weather damage in the recent floods.

The Environment Agency has completed the consultation on the environmental impact of the first phase of Exeter’s multi-million pound flood defence scheme.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rt Hon Danny Alexander and Communities Secretary, Rt Hon Eric Pickles have announced a £27.7 million package to create jobs and apprenticeships in coastal towns across the country, including areas affected by the recent floods, as part of the UK government’s long-term economic plan.

The new 20 year action plan to protect Somerset from flooding has now been published.

UK Flood Barriers, a leading provider of passive flood defence solutions will showcase Britain’s capability to design world class flood defence solutions at the House of Commons next week.

A draft action plan for the next twenty years to address flooding issues on the Somerset Levels which will be submitted to the Government later today could cost in excess of £100 million, according to a report on BBC News this morning.

Northumbrian Water is holding a meeting tomorrow to set out the next phase of a scheme to reduce the likelihood of flooding to properties in the Lakes Estate area of Hebburn.

The £6.8 million Godmanchester flood risk management scheme was officially completed last Friday.

Alun Davies Minister for Natural Resources in the Welsh Assembly has announced a further £5m to protect rail, roads, homes and businesses in Colwyn Bay from coastal erosion and flooding.

Leading businesses with a combined turnover of nearly £200 billion have written to the FT, warning that climate change is due to make UK flooding more frequent and calling for urgent action from the Government.
