UK once again facing heightened flood risk

Communities across southern and south west England have yet again been hit by heavy rain and high winds are sweeping across the UK - the Environment Agency currently has 165 Flood Warnings and 280 Flood Alerts in place for England and Wales.

The first phase of construction in Warrington of one of the UK’s biggest flood defence schemes has been completed.

The Environment Agency has lifted its flood warnings following the most serious tidal surge in over 60 years, with only 9 flood alerts now in place and no severe flood warnings or flood warnings.

The Environment Agency has issued multiple severe flood warnings – its highest category – ahead of the most serious coastal tidal surge for over 60 years in England. Over 200 flood warnings are now in place across England and Wales.

The Environment Agency is warning of an increased likelihood of flooding this winter.

Welsh Assembly Minister for Natural Resources Alun Davies has announced that the functions, assets and staff of the Powysland, Lower Wye and Caldicot and Wentlooge Levels Internal Drainage Boards (IDB) will transfer to Natural Resources Wales in 2015.
