Regulation and Legislation

A new paper by the European Commission on the implementation of EU water legislation says that while progress has been made there is still work to do.

The Government has said it will limit the statutory consultee role for Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs) to major development in relation to surface water drainage - the policy for sustainable drainage systems will be kept under review.

Members of the Major Energy Users’ Council which represents the UK’s large utility consumers are calling for the ability for multi-site businesses to switch to a single supplier from day one when the new competitive market opens in 2017.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has launched a new consultation on its proposed guidance setting out on howcustomers and companies will be able to determine which customers are eligible to switch water supplier when the competitive market opens for business in 2017.

Water UK, the body which represents all the UK water companies at national and international level, is calling for the Government to make them  statutory consultees on fracking planning applications before the end of this Parliament.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has confirmed that it will today refer Bristol Water’s final determination to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

Welsh Assembly consults on interim SuDS standards

The Welsh Assembly has launched a newconsultation on its proposed interim non-statutory standards for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) in Wales.

The Government’s own independent adviser on climate change, the Committee on Climate Change Adaptation, is warning that the current proposals to changes to the planning system in promoting sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) risk the introduction of an ineffectual policy in their present format.

Ofwat has published an integrated plan setting out key milestones and assumptions for the opening of the retail market to competition in 2017.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has unveiled its latest plan for market opening in 2017 after a proposal for the Water Industry Commission for Scotland to oversee the programme was turned down by the WICS Board in January.

Ofwat has announced that all but one company has accepted its final determination, which set limits on the prices companies can charge between 2015 and 2020.
